Ellen B. Farr (1840-1907) was a renowned early California landscape painter from Pasadena. Her works often focused on the blooming Pepper trees planted near the early Spanish missions. This painting is an original oil painting, completed about 125 years ago during the 19th century. The painting depicts the Mission of San Gabriel including the six original mission bells. The artist included Pepper trees in bloom; her trademark, in the composition. This painting is an important early California work of art because of its mission documentation and because Ellen B.
